Low2 was conceived in 2019 as a project to address the entrenched cargo related safety issues within the container shipping industry. The incidence of container fires had been highlighted by the loss of several large container vessels and this issue only looked set to be exacerbated by the increased volumes of Lithium Ion batteries being transported in both finished products and as cargo in their own right. For any solution to be commercially practicable it would need to be low cost, robust and to fit existing supply chain architecture.
As the solution took shape in early 2022, Low2 Pte Ltd was incorporated to house the resulting Intellectual Property and to facilitate its commercialisation.
FOUNDER - Matt Cannock
Matt graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Marine Technology from the University of Plymouth and went on to read a Masters Degree in Marine Engineering at University College London (UCL). Whilst at UCL he worked alongside Ministry of Defence staff on the design of aircraft carriers, specialising in the propulsion, electrical and HVAC systems. He was also involved in a collaborative project with an Oil Major to optimise the operation of their short-sea tanker fleet, a project which involved time offshore in the North Sea.
On graduating Matt worked for a well-respected technical consultancy investigating incidences of cargo damage during sea transportation. The role necessitated a thorough understanding of the carriage of all manner of cargoes but with a particular emphasis on bulk liquids.
Matt then moved into the insurance industry where he has held a variety of senior roles with insurance brokers, insurance companies, Lloyd’s Syndicates and insurance service providers. During this period he specialised in finding risk management solutions that combine financial instruments with physical risk management programmes.
